Our principal annual meeting is Leica Weekend, which is held in March/April each year. This is event, which in recent years has been supported by notable guest speakers, all of them world authorities on their particular subjects. Jim Lager, Paul-Henry van Hasbroeck and Hans Rajner have all made presentations on the history and development of Leitz and Leica cameras and related equipment. Other speakers such as Homer Sykes, Denis Thorpe and David Hurn have given presentations of outstanding pictorial content. Meetings are held in places of specific notable interest, so that plenty of opportunities for photography are available, which have included such locations as Lacock Abbey, the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club and the National Motorcycle Museum,The Shuttleworth Collection, Bletchley Park and recently, Middleton Hall, near Tamworth. Members are encouraged to bring along their guests and also any equipment they may have for sale or exchange and there are normally a dozen or so tables offering a range of collector and user equipment, literature, memorabilia, advertising material and ephemera. We also intend to incorporate the annual exhibition of Circles' images in the 2010 event. The Leica Camera personnel are also generous in supporting our meetings, with Nobby Clarke making this a family event. Well over one hundred of our members manage to attend the annual event, at which we also hold our Annual General Meeting. Other events have included meetings in Manchester, York, Nottingham and London, as well as 'field events' at Prescott in Gloucestershire and visits to Rolls Royce and Jaguar cars. All of our meetings and events have a reputation for being relaxed, friendly and informal gatherings, where members can meet up with each other to mix and discuss just about anything Leitz and Leica. |
